Matthew 3:12

Matthew 3:12: His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
Matthew 13:42: and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Matthew 8:12: But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
Matthew 22:13: Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
Matthew 25:30: And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

Matthew says that hell is a furnace of fire, but Matthew also says that hell is an outer darkness.

A furnace of fire would not be an outer darkness.

These descriptions are most likely just symbolic, with each of them showing a different aspect of hell.

So although the literal descriptions seem to contradict each other, the meanings behind these symbols do not.
