Proverbs 8:13

This website has been moved to:

Proverbs 8:13: The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth I hate.
Proverbs 16:6: In mercy and truth atonement is provided for iniquity; and by the fear of the Lord one departs from evil.

1 John 5:2: By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments.
2 John 1:6: This is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, that as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in it.

Proverbs says that we depart from evil because we fear God, but First John says that we depart from evil because we love God.

The verses don't contradict each other, because they don't claim to be listing all of the reasons.

It's perfectly consistent to say that we depart from evil because we both love and fear God.
